Common Breastfeeding and Lactation Concerns & Resource Links
Latch Concerns
Painful latch is an indication that latch is not as effective or as deep as it could be. While the causes can be unique to each parent and baby, a shallow latch often causes pain, cracked nipples, and many other problems. You do not need to suffer through a painful latch! Kailin can help you determine the source of your pain and how to adjust the latch to make it less painful.

Milk Supply
If you are concerned about your milk supply, reach out to an IBCLC. There are many ways to determine if your baby is getting enough milk and there are evidence-based ways to work to increase your milk supply (IF that is necessary). If you live in Northern Colorado, Kailin is available for in-home appointments. During these appointments we can do a weighted feed (weighing your baby before and after a feeding to determine exactly how much milk your baby took in). And during virtual appointments, we can discuss all of your concerns to determine if your baby is getting enough milk. All questions about your milk supply are important and should be discussed with an IBCLC. Kailin is here to help!

Returning to Work or School
Effective March 23, 2010 the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act amended Section 7 of the Labor Standards Act to require employers to provide reasonable break time for an employee to express breast milk. Employers are also required to provide a private place, other than a bathroom, for their employee to express breastmilk.
Additionally, the PUMP act was passed in 2022 which improved and expanded upon these protections for lactating parents in the United States!
Common questions covered in this area during appointments include: how to build a milk supply before returning to work/school, how to use a pump, creating a pumping schedule, etc. While this topic can be covered at any time, this is a great conversation to begin during pregnancy. Reach out for an appointment today!
